Home Solar Power Systems – Are They Worth It?

November 2, 2009 · Posted in Home Solar Power Systems

Home Solar Power Systems are a viable way to save money in the long run and provide your own power to run the electric, heating, and cooling systems in your home.

Some may say that systems of this nature are expensive, but they will pay for themselves over and over again in years to come.

Home systems used to be very expensive, but because of new technology the prices are much less than they were ten years ago.

Producing your own power means you will not get a bill from the utility companies once a month or if you live in an area that does mpt produce enough sun to maintain a constant stream of energy, your bill will be greatly reduced.

Another plus is that if you produce surplus energy the utility companies have to buy it back from you. This is called net metering and often times it won’t pay you for all the energy you generate, just an agreed upon portion.

Several states support Home Solar Power Systems by offering rebate programs or tax credits.

Some states will help to finance residential systems including deductions and exemptions, loans, bonds, and grants. Some incentives come from individual states and some come from the federal government.

Now that you know you can both save money and make money from installing a home solar power system in your house you should know how it works.

Rectangular panels are mounted on the roof of the house. These panels are made of silicon sheets mounted under non-reflective glass. Photons from the sun’s rays are collected in the panels and are converted into electrical power.

This power flows into an inverter which converts the power into regular electricity that can be used in your home.

A totally solar home will include solar panels that convert energy into electricity to run appliances and lights in the home.

It will include solar heat and cooling to make the home comfortable all year round. Water will be heated using solar power which is probably the least expensive manner in which to heat water for your shower, laundry, and dishwasher.

Outdoor lights can be solar and catch the sun’s rays during the day and shine without aid of wires during the evening.

Most home solar systems consist of a series of panels called photovoltaic or PV cells, that are placed on the roof of the house or erected in the yard.

These panels are made of silicon sandwiched between non-reflective glass. When the sun hits it they absorb the power and convert it to electricity.

New technology is developing a roof tile that will collect the suns rays and convert it into electricity.

Also needed is an inverter, mew meter, and solar power monitor. The panels are placed in an area where there is no shade and that has an angle that positions them toward the mid day sun.

This can be done by the homeowner themselves, but it is probably better to have a qualified installer do it. They will know more about the positioning for optimal efficiency.

There are two different forms of solar power systems for homes. One is the grid tie system where the home is also wired into the electrical grid that everyone else is on.

This is necessary for homes in areas that might not receive a great deal of sunlight per day and therefore do not save enough to run the needs of the home.

The off grid type of system is totally independent and good for homes situated where there is an abundance of sunlight every day.

The initial cost of installing a home solar power system is definitely high but having this type of renewable power will save you money in years to come.

It isn’t unusual for it to save a whopping 80% on home heating, cooling and electricity in a year. That is nothing to laugh about.

I think this is undoubtedly the best way to reduce cost cutting and also help us to reduce our dependency on other natural resources for energy..so keep going and go green.
